Shadeclan cats are easily identified by their long, thick coats, large paws, broad shoulders, and long tails. They are known for their excellent tree-climbing abilities, able to scale the large pine trees found on their territory. Shadeclan cats consistently put their clan before all else, and although they don't work well with other clans, they are particularly protective of cats with mixed bloodlines if they are part Shadeclan, willing to defend these clan members tooth and claw.
Their territory is mostly made up of the great pine trees which stretch far up into the sky and provide shelter without the tedious underbrush which their broad shoulders wouldn't be able to navigate very well. Instead, a layer of soft pine needles cover the forest floor at all times, providing very few places for prey to hide or live. Therefore, to hunt, Shadeclan cats take to the trees. They are expert climbers, and have to be to catch the birds and squirrels that live on their territory, just out of reach to cats who prefer to keep their paws on the ground.
Shadeclan cats' strong, tree-climbing legs are good for other things as well though, so the stretch of open land claimed by the clan is put good use hunting rabbits. The windy clearing stretching up until part of the star fields are reached, the sacred land used as a burial ground for fallen ancestors. The grounds are a no- hunting zone, and the Shadeclan cats respect this, proud of their fallen ancestors and grieving for them just as all the other clans are, and gave up the small stretch of land, clearly able to see that the portion of land given up by Mistralclan was much greater.
The windy clearing is also used as a training place, Shadeclan having trained side-by-side with Mistralclan cats in the past, only a boarder separating them, something that cause a lot of conflict in the past. With the star fields taking over Mistralclan's part of the territory, however, Shadeclan cats have learned to go without their relationship with the other clan (or lack there of), honing in on their ability to fight, using their great physical strength as their greatest advantage.
The Shadeclan camp rests deeper within the heart of the pines, marked by a huge fallen pine tree whose roots house the leader's den. This great pine is used as the leader's perch during clan meetings, the dusty clearing around it protected by walls of fallen branches woven with brambles from the boarder the clan shares with Auroraclan. Although to the average observer their territory is barren, Shadeclan knows that the true life lies within the branches of the pines.
